Here is another character Milt Kahl didn't particularly enjoy animating, but as usual he pulled it off beautifully. There was criticism at the time as to why Madame Bonfamille in "The Aristocats" looked so realistic. This lady was eccentric enough to will her fortune to her house cats, so why not design her as a nutty old woman? Milt's response was that the story guys thought of her as a beautiful, dignified elderly lady, as did Ken Anderson. So he refined what they gave him, not changing…

I love these exploratory sketches for Cinderella's living quarters. They are modest and hardly comfortable, but there is still warmth and charm in these sketches which reflects the title character's personality. The artist is most likely Ken O'Connor, somebody might correct me on this one. I have always been in awe of talented layout people, who create beautiful worlds for the animators' characters. This coming Sunday, March 22, is Milt Kahl's birthday. He doesn't seem too happy in the photo with the way things are going on the film The Aristocats. In the end he didn't like the movie very much, though he enjoyed animating Edgar, the butler and George Hautecourt, the old lawyer, less so Madame Bonfamille and the horse Frou Frou.
