This project was inspired by the 1948 painting The Elephants by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. I introduced my Grade 5 students to the work of Dali and we discussed his style- barren landscapes with a real sense of depth and space, highly realistic details, lots of random objects grouped together. They sketched these in pencil first, then outlined in Sharpie and painted using watercolours.

You need: coloured construction paper 32 by 23 cm white drawing paper A5 size oil pastels scissors glue tempera paint Look at pictures of clowns on the digiboard and talk about how they recognize a clown. Give each student a coloured construction paper and a white sheet of A5 size. Let them cut the corners of the white sheet, and let them paste this clown's face on the coloured sheet.
