It is a very effient technique to make pieces that need a lid.
This way you dont need to throw them in two parts, you can do it all in one.

One very important tip for thos type of shape is to leave some clay at the top to close your form, specially if you decide to make a round shape like that. You will need clay at the top to be able to close it and make the knob.

Its better to have a little bit more clay and take it off then to not have enough!

Happy potting everyone.

Carving clay is a wonderful way to add texture and interest to your piece. But what's the best way to achieve a perfect finish? Here are my top tips for carving clay. 1. The State of Clay This is by far the most important. Your piece needs to have dried to just the right level before you can carve into it. If the clay is too dry then your tool will just scratch into the surface and you'll risk cracking the piece by the pressure you'll need to apply to make a mark. If the clay is too wet…

Michael Widhalm on Instagram: "The second method is super useful for very big pieces or small once, because when I only have a small portion of clay I don’t even center it before I use my leather on it so I safe probably 1/3 of the time. When throwing big I recenter the opened clay so it is running very evenly on the wheel. I have seen so many different techniques over the years and I wouldn’t say there is one right technique. This two types of throwing just helped me a lot to throw precise and fast. Any of you also throw with leather from time to time? . . . #pottery #ceramics #handmade #clay #art #ceramic #ceramicart #stoneware #homedecor #design #potterylove #keramik #instapottery #satisfying #pottersofinstagram #wheelthrown #handmadepottery #handmadeceramics #potterystudio #tablewar Beginning Pottery Wheel Projects, Wheel Thrown Pottery Ideas Beginners, Wheel Throwing Ideas, Ceramic Videos, Wheel Pottery, Pottery Tutorials, Handmade Leather Work, Throwing Clay, Wheel Throwing
