The OVA series is set both during and after the timeline of the TV series and tells of Kenshin and Kaoru's later days, much of which is not derived from the Rurouni Kenshin manga. It is generally considered as non-canon due to significant differences from the manga storyline, although it served as a finale to the TV series.
