I'm not the op of those tags, but the paper you want to check out is “A Taste for the Beautiful”: Latent Aesthetic Mate Preferences for White Crests in Two Species of Australian Grassfinches (1999) by Burley and Symanski. Here's a JSTOR link where you can read it for free (I hope)!

If I remember it correctly (I last read this quite a few years ago now), the idea was to show that there's a latent "aesthetic sense" in animals that can't solely be explained by natural selection. I'm not sure the paper convinces me on that, but I do love that they gave the birds little feather hats!
