M. ichkeulensis infestation rates vary depending on environmental conditions and seasonal variations. In this research, seasonal infestation ratio of M. ichkeluensis on Grey Mullets living in 4 different environmental conditions, were determined. To accomplish this aim, 25 Grey Mullet individuals were captured monthly from 4 different stations (Karataş Port, Hurma Boğazı Lagoon, Çamlık Lagoon and Yumurtalık Port) within the coastal region of Adana province. In addition, relation between infestation ratio and the following parameters: fish size (length and weight); season and salinity were investigated. Our results revealed that, 109 fish infested out of 1200 fishes (%9.08) by M. ichkeulensis; Highest infestation level (%35.8) was recorded in summer months (July-September) interval. Parasitic cyct settlement on the gill arches was deter...

Parasites were collected from the gill filaments of the European barracuda, Sphyraena sphyraena(L.)captured by trawling in Iskenderun Bay, Turkey. The morphological features of B. unicirrus were Redescribed and illustrated based on the newly collected material. Key diagnostic characters and newly observed details in some structures are highlighted and supported by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Differences and simply overlooked details in previous descriptions of B. unicirrus, are discussed in detail. In addition, morphological comparisons between presently reported species and the other species of the genus Bomolochus Nordmann, 1832 were also presented.

Materials and Methods: Seventy eyes of 70 patients (43 male, mean age 55.6±12.2 years) diagnosed with VH secondary to PDR were evaluated retrospectively. Demographic characteristics of the patients, baseline and final clinical results, and the interventions the patients were subject to were recorded. The patients who received IVB injections (group 1, n=29) were compared to those who did not receive injections (group 2, n=41) in terms of VH clearance time and surgery rates. Results: The mean follow-up time was 14.5±6.1 months in group 1 and 18.4±9.6 months in group 2 (p=0.185). The mean visual acuity was similar between the groups at baseline and at the last visit (for all p>0.05). Panretinal photocoagulation could be applied in 86% of subjects in group 1 and in 58% in group 2 2 within the first month (p=0.016). VH clearance time was not different between the groups (2.3±2.1 months in group 1 and 3.4±2.6 months in group 2, p=0.146). The number of subjects requiring surgery was 7 (24%) in group 1 and 20 (48.8%) in group 2 (p=0.048). Conclusion: IVB was found effective in cases with VH secondary to PDR in terms of reducing the need for surgery and increasing the rate of subjects to whom panretinal photocoagulation could be applied in the early period, although there was no impact on final visual acuity.

The new material was collected from the body surface of tub gurnards, Chelidonichthys lucerna (Linnaeus), caught in eastern Mediterranean waters off the Turkish coast. Inadequately described female structures from earlier descriptions are redescribed and illustrated in detail and the male of C. brevicaudatus is described for the first time. The new material of C. brevicaudatus is compared with material collected by A. Scott and stored in the collections of the Natural History Museum, London. In addition, a voucher specimen of Caligus uranoscopi Vaissière, 1955, stored in the collections of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris is reexamined. Caligus uranoscopi is recognised as a junior subjective synonym of C. brevicaudatus since it does not differ in any substantive characters.

The recorded parasites are: Caligus fugu Yamaguti et Yamasu, 1959 found in the mouth cavity of two immigrant species from the Red Sea: Lagocephalus suezensis Clark et Gohar, 1953 and of Lagocephalus spadiceus (Richardson, 1845) and Taeniacanthus lagocephali Pearse, 1952 found on the gill filaments and inner operculum of L. spadiceus (Richardson,1845). The presently reported finding of Caligus fugu constitutes a new parasite record for L. suezensis and L. spadiceus. Neither of the two copepod species have previously been recorded in the Mediterranean. Both fish hosts were caught in the Mediterranean waters off the Turkish coast.

This paper provides taxonomic information on two species of sea lice (family Caligidae) collected from S. solea in eastern Mediterranean waters off the Turkish coast. Caligus brevicaudatus A. Scott, 1901 and Caligus apodus (Brian, 1924) were both found and this is the first report of C. brevicaudatus in Turkish waters. The discovery of C. apodus on S. solea is a new host record. Key diagnostic characters of both species are reported, supported by light and scanning electron microscopy observations. During a 12-month survey a prevalence of 28% was recorded for C. brevicaudatus, whereas for C. apodus peak prevalence was much lower (3%).
