Part of twitter right now is behaving absolutely bonkers in a way that genuinely makes me nervous tbh.
See, there are a bunch of vanilla people discovering kink and cnc for the first time, and fantasy games that tie to that, and tbh I do not like fantasy games but they’re having a puritanical reaction straight out of a conservative handbook.

I understand that in times of stress, often disempowered people will search for anything they can control, but it is absolutely wild seeing people claim first of all that cnc is not a healthy coping mechanism and that we need to police what people do sexually in private while often being baby queers. Like, these people cannot hear themselves.

I have even seen some people even refer to how Steam’s fantasy games will advertise “domination, mind control, and submission” as if that is somehow something abhorrent despite the fact it is (on paper) the basics of bdsm. It is a backlash that honestly to some degree feels scripted, or comical in how stereotypical it is.

I also think there is something to be said for how these people are freaking out over arguably the most common kink next to breeding kinks while never addressing actual problems that can arise from fantasy games and content around fulfilling fantasies, such as the rampant sexualization/fetishization of minorities, which can be a problem when it is our only representation, as it often is :-V

I know it is because they don’t understand the realms they’re talking about, not really, but like, it is also kind of comical to me in a way.

Yes, one of the most common kinks is evil. Sure. Now are you going to say something about the fetishization of transgender people and/or POC into sex toys or are you somehow filtering for games that only feature straight cis white women.

debas3rr asked:

Love love love your analysis of the Operator and as someone who is also overly analytical of these series, I need to ask if you've ever read the canyouseethewords blog here on Tumblr? A lot of quotes from there inform a lot of what I think of it as a character / thing (esp "Evil does evil deeds but giving it a name only empowers it.") and I wanted to know if you had any thoughts on it? (Ik this is technically emh stuff and not mh but in my opinion it informs a really interesting read of the Operator in mh)

I have not read that blog because I am not an EMH girlie sorry. Me and EMH have starkly different attitudes and beliefs. Apples to pears, really, maybe Oranges. [Though my beef is not as much with the series as it is the fandom, which is imo even worse than MH with the woman fridging and shit but that is neither here nor there. EMH is fine.]

I don’t really have many thoughts on it though, unfortunately. I like reading folks interpretations of shit ans hearing how different stories explain or rationalize their Operator/“Slenderman,"—as imo that provides as much insight into the theorist as it does the series—but I don’t have many thoughts on EMH ^^”

I suppose if we want my thoughts on the Operator itself though, to me, as a monster it has always been it is something sort of unfathomable/somewhat incomprehensible to people, and thats kind of the fun part.

Is it a manifestation of human evil? Is it a supermassive cosmic horror reaching into our world? Is it a corrupted nature spirit? Is it a stand-in for systemic abuse marginalized/disempowered people face, with the whole story meant to be an abstract metaphor?

For Marble Hornets, I am not altogether sure if there was ever really meant to be a specific answer, but I enjoy talking about and discussing the different options, and the fluidity of the Operator is what makes it such a formidable and terrifying force, because in not knowing what it is, we are helpless to stop it.

I will admit I am partial to the second option I listed, but that is just a peering into my psychology really haha. I personally just find the idea of something impossibly big thats feeding off people like a whale does off plankton cool :-)

The vagueness of it is what makes it work though, and any theory about MH or adaptation can work with enough elbow grease. I more care about the execution honestly than the actual choice on what the Operator is.

I hope this was a satisfactory answer!!!

Sorry i went on a massive ramble haha. Im a nerd ^^" ng.asks

I keep thinking about Alex’s bio on the marble hornets website. [context]

Under his likes he has his dog, Rocky.

The dog we never see again, which is only mentioned in the second episode and then never even seen again. We have no idea what happened to him, if he for some ridiculous reason got taken or if he just ran away. He was one of Alex’s favorite things though, right next to both film and art. He was something alive that Alex could admit he loved and cared for, despite the fact it was so hard for him to talk about his feelings. It is acceptable to love your dog.
