the exponential decline of the "mass market kids movie" needs to be put under a microscope. there was a point where you could rely on even the mediocre filler movies at least making sense on a basic directional emotional level, now you can't even reliably get that from pixar. i don't know why any scene happens in elemental, it is so fucked up, it feels almost postmodern

my baseline used to be cloudy with a chance of meatballs. basic, predictable, ideologically vacant, but competent enough to like,,, know what the devices they're using actually do? the plantings, reminders and payoffs of all its little jokes are all funny and disguise their role in the trio, you feel like u watched a story by the end of it. Lightyear tries to pull something similar but it shows its dick so much that you can only see the jagged edges of the screenplay. fucking Shark Tale was a more coherent viewing experience

everyone was talking abt encanto but I must stress that nothing fucking happens in that movie for a literal 70 minutes, mirabel gets incited to adventure and is repeatedly told things we already know, the beat with her seeing a vision of her hugging her sister should be slightly before the midpoint because that is the literal first time in the movie she knows anything about what shes supposed to be doing, instead the movie is already almost over and they fucking speedrun the 2nd act low point and the resolution in like ten minutes, how does this happen
