When an action potential occurs at one node (of Ranvier; whith a lots of voltage-gated Na+ and K+ channels) the same intracellular and extracellular currents are created except that the myelin dramatically reduces the current across the membrane so that the current that flows to the next node is strong enough to generate an action potential. This continues down the length of a myelinated axon with the action potential jumping from one node to the next.
