A panel from Krazy Kat, by George Herriman. His simplistic characters that live in a constantly changing world are drawn with a looseness that results in variously sized lines. It's clear to see that Patrick McDonnell, the maker of Mutts comics was inspired by the characters and style of Krazy Kat, in fact, I could totally see the two main characters of Mutts having the conversation in this panel!
