Shinrin-Yoku is a Japanese mindfulness activity that translates to “taking in the forest atmosphere” or “forest bathing.” It was developed in the 1980s to help relieve stress and improve physical and mental health—and scientific research shows it’s doing just that.

Mississippi Headwaters-Lake Itasca, Clearwater County, Minnesota

I learned an interesting fact. These "stepping stones' (visited by many, many people each year) are actually part of a modification of the first 2000 feet of the Mississippi River by the CCC in the 1930's. The object was to make the start of the river appear more impressive than the marshy wild rice area that was there before, yet still "look natural".
