The lady slipper (Pierella hyalinus fusimaculata) is unusual for a butterfly as its hindwings are larger than its forewings. They fly just above the ground in the shade and blend very well with the forest floor, even with those blue wings. On occasion, they will emerge from the edge of the forest seeking sunny areas on the ground on which to bask. This species has a wingspan of up to 7.6 centimeters.
