Francesca Woodman was a young American photographer whose work I found to be really inspiring. She is mostly a self portrait photographer and works a lot with long exposure times and blurred images. After seeing her work and hearing her story I was inspired to take some pictures with some of her images in mind. This group of pictures is dedicated to Woodman’s fashion photographs which she pursued and developed in the later years of her life, between 1978 and 1980 primarily while living and working in New York City. Most are shown here for the first time.

Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus and the last divided capital of the world, is a place where two opposing communities, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, co-exist, separated by a buffer zone. A contemporary art gallery located on the edge of the old town centre, tellingly named The Office plays on that paradox of the simultaneous purposes of locations.

One of the key influences of Italian art on Woodman’s work was in her precise use of composition. She explored perspective and consciously used formal strategies from her study of Florentine masters.
