Most times, the paintings that I feel rather proud of are not too popular, and the paintings that I feel like are too simple are popular. Maybe it is exactly that simplicity that has beauty in it, which is why in this one, there is focus on just a few things, and not a thousand. The eye instantly knows where to look, and you can still draw all the tiny little details, but the whole thing itself has to be grouped into a simple structure just as this one. You are establishing your highlights, midtones and shadows right away on paper as one layer and let the tones merge. 🎨 Glazing (or simply, layering) is about slowly building up your tonal values by adding layers of paint on top of dried layers.
