My New Head Collar

 Mom has had just about enough of my pulling so hard on every training device that she gets for me.   She reads lots of stuff on the intermutts and she read very good things about the 2Posh2Pull head collar from the UK.   Our Springer Spaniel friend, Ollie wears it and it works for him!  We read that it's a game changer!

So this morning was my very first walk on my new head collar.  It doesn't help matters that the birds are singing and flitting everywhere gathering materials and building their nests.   They taunt me and it's very hard for me to be a good boy.

I'm a working Cocker Spaniel and I have a LOT of energy and mom reads that pups like me can go all day long on a fast speed and everything she reads is spot on and not wrong.  

Did this new collar work?    Mom says that it did a better job that the Halti for sure and because it's the first day, will the second day be just as good or better?   Time will tell.

Mom just got off the phone with my vet.   I get neutered on Friday!   Too much is happening all at once!

Tasty Tuesday

 We had rain this past weekend and mom decided that she wanted to make Date Nut Muffins.

The recipe:

1 cup pitted chopped dates, 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts ( we only used about 1/4 cup of nuts), 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening, 3/4 cup boiling water, 2 eggs, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup all-purpose flour.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.    This recipe was for an 8 1/2" X 4 1/2" loaf pan but mom likes muffins better.    Grease your loaf pan.

Put the dates, walnuts, baking soda, salt and shortening in a bowl and pour boiling water over and stir.  Let the mixture stand for 15 minutes.  

Using a fork, beat the eggs and sugar together in a bowl.  Add the flours and stir until well blended.  Spoon into loaf pan and bake 40-50 minutes.  Do not overbake or the loaf will be dry.  

When loaf is done, slide a knife around the edges of the pan and turn the loaf onto a rack to cool completely.  This bread freezes well.  

I always race to the kitchen to let mom know that the timer has gone off ☺

The muffins were excellent and not dry at all.  This recipe is a keeper!

I sure hope I get lots of treats for this, mom.

Mom's African Violets are starting to bloom again.  Apparently, you have to repot them once a year to keep them happy, along with a whole slew of other stuffs.

Nature Friday

We found mini-Daffies in bloom!

The wild onions are up!

I am back to being a normal healthy pup!  I took my last antibiotic on Wednesday!   We want to thank Ruby Rose for her link to natural stuffs that you can do to discourage the eating of poo and we want to thank Dada and Lulu and JavaBean for their link.  Their link was geared more towards foxtails but mom gave it serious thought and concluded that because I love to play with my ball on my lunge line, I wouldn't be able to catch my ball when mom tosses it with the headNet on.  Bummer!   Mom is pretty sure that I ate wild animal poo in my own yard while I was out doing my business.  We have many wild animals that visit - bunnies, woodchucks, fox, skunk, racoon, deer, coyotes and bobcats that we know of.

An Unhappy Monday

 At the beginning of this past week, I was vomiting in the middle of the night and it was making my tummy hurt.  And then the bloody poos started.  I refused breakfast on Wednesday and mom made me rice and a scrambled egg.  Boy, was that ever yummy!   I licked my bowl clean for 15 minutes after I had finished!  Mom called my vet and took down a stool sample.  I was fortunate to get in to see him on Wednesday.  The labs hadn't come back yet but Dr M prescribed an antibiotic.    The next day we got a call from the office - no parasites but they discovered that I had eaten wild animal poo and that was the issue.  I'm on antibiotics for seven days and things have gotten much better.

That is part one of this story.   Mom has made it her mission to have this wild animal poo issue never happen again.   She's been looking into muzzles.  Who wants a basket on their face when they want to have fun?!

I hate the Halti.   Mom is able to keep my head off the ground when we walk but what fun it that?  I like to sniff and explore on my walks but I think I'm stuck with the Halti for the time being. 

Does anyone have a suggestion that could help me?
