okay finally fully finished bone machine by tom waits and so i can officially say its up in my list of best albums of all time. lot of highlights very very few lowlights.
highlights include: the earth died screaming, dirt in the ground, such a scream, all stripped down (I KNOW THOSE ARE THE WHOLE FIRST FOUR SONGS BUT THEYRE SO GOOD.) the ocean doesnt want me, in the colosseum, goin out west, murder in the red barn, i dont wanna grow up (just as good as the ramones cover), and that feel (SUCH A STRONG FUCKING ENDING TO AN ALBUM)
but tbh i dont think theres a single song on this album that doesn't have something to go absolutely crazy for... genuinely an insane album and i cant believe it took me so fucking long to discover it
You should listen to TPAB
there is no fucking way you think i havent heard to pimp a butterfly
need 2 buy this album on cd
youre right tht is way too many highlights for one album lemme try again its just o fucking good.
highlights are probably
and the earth died screaming - great tone setter for the whole album, so fucking good. the album to me feels like a collection of songs rather than a cohesive message, but still they all have a similar feel and this song really brings you into that headspace of “oh this albums gonna makr me uncomfortable in the best way
that feel - similar but opposite to the one above.this song feels like its being sung by a group of friends, none of whom will be saved. the album closes after this, and youre left with just your thoughts, and it really feels like youve been left all alone
i dont wanna grow up - just a lot of fun but at the same time such a twinge of like . dark sorrow. really its the same with the whole album but its like. i mean im biased because this was one of my favourite songs before i listened to the album, but the way it sounds like its coming from another room, like youve been tucked in while your parents watch it on the lounge. i think the clear age in his voice really adds to it. like the ramones cover, one of my favourite songs, feels like a song of teenage rebellion, fighting against aging . but tom waits lost the fight. hes already grown up. like a child actor pushing 50 but still rehashing lines from his glory days
