Expecting and Empowered | Home Workout App on Instagram: "‼️ PERINEAL STRETCHING ‼️

Perineal stretching is one easy thing you can do during pregnancy to help decrease tearing during labor and delivery and decrease the tension on your pelvic floor! ✨

Instead of adding it as one more thing on your long to-do list just try doing it in the shower or in a semi-reclined position in the bathtub. 🛁

How to perform perineal stretching:
Pretend that your pelvic floor is a clock. 6 o’clock is down toward the anus and 12 o’clock is up towards the clitoris. Insert your thumb into the vagina up to the knuckle. Stretch or massage the lower half of the vagina in a U shape from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock. Then press and hold at each position (3, 6, and 9). Try doing this for 3-5 minutes at a time!

Kelly Ruther | Doctor of Physical Therapy on Instagram: "Do you have an overactive or tight pelvic floor?! If so, it may be due to weakness in your glutes! 🤯 Oftentimes, when a muscle is overworking it’s compensating for another muscle not doing its job properly…. The glutes are a large group of muscles that are supposed to provide significant stability to our pelvis and low back… But when they aren’t doing their job properly, the pelvic floor has to overwork ultimately causing tightness and dysfunction. If you believe your pelvic floor is overworking due to your glutes underworking, give this exercise a try! And if you want to optimize your body while reducing pain and improving function, I have plenty of great advice on my page so be sure to follow along! #backpain #leaking #pelv Weak Pelvic Floor Symptoms, Relaxing Pelvic Floor Muscles, Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, Pelvic Pain Relief, Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise, Pelvic Floor Therapy, Doctor Of Physical Therapy, Pelvic Floor Muscles, Pelvic Floor Exercises

Dr. Johanna Provencher PT, DPT - Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist on Instagram: "How to use a pelvic wand to perform perineal massage 🍑 only one peach was harmed in the making of this reel 🙃
1. using a water based lubricant (@goodcleanlove used here), apply a generous amount to the tip of the wand (this wand is by @intimaterose 🌹)
2. Gently insert into the vag and apply a light amount of pressure for 60 seconds. Depending on the tissue, it may feel like a gentle stretch. If it is very tender, reduce pressure or stop. If you are having an awkward time reaching the tissue, place one foot on a step stool or chair to elevate leg 🪑 if you are currently pregnant, perineal stretching can be initiated 8-10 weeks prior to your due date. If you are newly postpartum, my recommendation would be to Perineal Massage, Prenatal Massage, Water Based Lubricant, Due Date, September 28, Physical Therapist, Pregnancy Birth, Pelvic Floor, 60 Seconds
