Aack's work in progress. During World War II men in the Navy would get a tattoo of a rooster on one foot and a pig on the other to prevent drowning. The symbolism derived from the fact that when ships sank, the only safe refuge was to grab onto the pig and chicken crates that would float in the water.

We all know the old "Sailor" tattoos of a Rooster and Pig tattooed on the feet of sailors as a good luck symbols. On the ships the livestock were kept in wooden /bamboo cages and if the ship was to go down the sailors knew these cages would "float". Sailor Jerry was famous for turning these out back during WWII. We found these "New" style Rooster and Pig tattoos and love them. These were on our Google Feed and have tried and tried to find the artist or shop that did these but could not. Pig & Rooster → (on the feet or behind the ankles) traditionally believed to symbolize survival from a shipwreck. As both animals were often kept in wooden crates on board, when a ship capsizes, these crates would float with the current and most likely get washed up to shore. Another explanation (pig tattooed on the left knee and a rooster on the right foot) was that "“Pig on the knee, safety at sea. A cock on the right, never lose a fight."
