Luke is assumed to be a excellent fighter pilot since he shot a rat in a speeder once, and Anakin is a TEN YEAR OLD who’s better than any pilot on Naboo because he can race podracers (which don’t even fly!), but fanboys think Rey knowing how to fly a ship is a step too far?

A-REALLY? That’s where they draw the line for the Space Wizard movie’s credibility?

“Fish alien admirals and space magic I can accept, but a woman knowing how to do something??? Uh, I need 50 pages of lore explaining this clear plot hole, please”

Why Plot Holes Aren’t Plot Holes, Part I

image

“Why does Rose not want her friend to die? Why does this character want to save someone’s life? Wow…plot hole much? :/”

Like generally people don’t want people to die, especially people they like! My citation for this is, um, reality (which is a kind of Star Wars Expanded Universe, in a sense)

image

…because if she doesn’t, the chance of Finn dying is 100%.

And it very much does nearly kill them. Rose, at any rate.

image

Maybe the secret is in the “900 year old” part and not the “Jedi Master” part…hmmmmmm.

But the REAL answer is that this is a movie about SPACE WIZARDS that doesn’t have clear rules for who can do what SPACE MAGIC and commonly portrays uninitiated Jedi - Anakin/Luke/Rey/Leia - doing ADVANCED SPACE MAGIC but oddly no one cared until it was women doing it

image

“Why do BOTH SIDES of this Civil War have AK47s???”

Yeah that’s a thing that happens. That’s a thing, that happens, in real life.

I guess it’s a plot hole in capitalism?

(Fun fact: look up what country leads arms sales worldwide sometime for a nice lil surprise!)

image

You could make up some explanation about how these ships are smaller, but the real answer is: if they did that, the surprise about Holdo’s sacrifice wouldn’t work, and “because without it the plot wouldn’t work” is a perfectly valid explanation for why a thing exists in a movie

There’s a bunch of petty ones like “how does Rey know how to pilot?” or “how does Rey know how to swim?” or “why does WOMAN know how to DO THING? DO NOT GET” but the real answer to all of them is: who gives a shit? Oddly enough, Rian Johnson/JJ Abrams care more about what Rey does than pausing the pool scene midway through so she can tediously explain how she learned to swim on Jakku.

Turns out stories are stories and not tedious puzzles! Who knew???

Hello; Obsessive Fans Versus Negative Reviews has now become a account of Obsessive Fanboyism in all its varied forms. Outraged reactions to negative reviews will still be a part of this blog, however! But so will many other things.

On a New York Times review of Jiro Dreams of Sushi that said: “Like many other such portraits, it wastes valuable time declaring its subject’s excellence that could be spent fleshing out demonstrations, explanations, context”, Craig Fader claims the critic should not review documentaries because they’re “out of their league”. So says the person who thinks giving a negative score to a film that most people disliked somehow reflects poorly on the reviewer.

“Wait, this person gave two movies they didn’t like the same negative score? I DON’T GET IT” - Craig Fader

Yeah man, one person disliked The Hunger Games; ergo all old people should be banned from talking about movies. Makes perfect sense!

Hey Georg - can I call you Georg? - I don’t mean to offend you, but fuck you for thinking a film’s biggest flaw is the lead actress not being attractive enough to meet your cock’s lofty standards. I know for a fact you’ll never denounce a movie...

Yes, fucking Prometheus is this guy’s idea of intellectualism
