Use teddy bear counters to teach number comparison! Laminate the number comparison work mat without signs (see previous pin). Arrange bears in 3 sets of 2 groups each: one equal set, one less than set, and one greater than set. Give your child a dry-erase marker and have her label each set with the correct sign. To add an element of surprise, place cups over the piles. Tell child that the bears are sleeping in their caves; we are going to wake them up to see which neighbor family has more cubs! One topic of kindergarten measurement is size - find out what to teach, ideas for teaching about size, and size activities for the whole group, small groups/centers, and using technology! In kindergarten, we expect students to describe and compare measurable attributes, know size-related vocabulary, and if something has more or less of an attribute (such as bigger or smaller). Kindergarteners should also be able to classify and sort items into a category, such as long and short.
