Nervous tissue consists of nerve cells, or neurons, which are specialized for the generation and conduction of electrical events, and of supporting cells, which provide the neurons with anatomical and functional support. Nerve tissue is specialized for chemical and electrical communication and consists of neurons and supporting cells, called glial cell. Glial cells constitute most of the volume of nervous tissue. They protect and assist neurons by communication, but do not transmit long-distance signals. See chapter 12 for more detail on neurons and glial cells.

Nervous system is your body's command center. Originating from your brain, it controls your movements, thoughts and automatic responses to the world around you. It also controls other body systems and processes, such as digestion, breathing etc.

The nervous tissue is the source of communication throughout the body. Nervous cells are composed of neurons, specialized cells that allow communication throughout the body. Nervous tissues cannot replication, therefore, you are out of luck if one atrophies. Nervous tissues are found in the brain, spinal cord, and the peripheral nerves. There are neurons and neuroglia.
