A drastic temperature drop, although naturally occurring, isn’t vital to your orchid flowering. I’ve flowered orchids for years in my home without dropping the temperature. I like to plant my orchids in orchid bark and light should be bright! I make sure mine get at least 1000 foot candles for a minimum of 4 hours per day. This can be achieved with grow lights as well! #orchid #plantsofinstagram #plantlover | Tanner Mitchell | tannertheplanter · Original audio My Orchid Has Yellow Leaves, Orchids Care, Ground Orchids, Gardening Products, Indoor Orchids, Orchid Pots, Orchid Fertilizer, Orchid Plant Care, Orchid House

Krystal Duran on Instagram: "Orchid are epiphytes. They grow on top of other plants and are not anchored in the soil. Epiphytes take up their nutrients from water, air, and debris around them.

Living in Indiana, fall and winter temperatures get less than 55 degrees consistently which would prevent us from being able to anchor orchids or other plants to trees so this will just have to do.

When choosing a board, choose one that is rot resistant. I used cork bark since it doesn’t rot but it’s also very easy to make holes in. It’s fairly plyable.

Hang in a spot that will get light, water the moss when it’s almost dry, and you can incorporate liquid orchid fertilizer in the water when blooms fall off.

Now we can live our orchid hanging dreams… inside 🌸

Some orchids do best when mounted instead of in a pot. In fact, we’re the ones that try to force orchids to fit inside pots to fit our own needs and wants, instead of letting them grow as they do in nature—mounted on trees. When it comes to mounting orchids on tree bark, don’t pick up the first broken log you see. Some trees will hinder orchid growth while others will provide that extra security with nicks and crannies that orchid roots love to attach to. The best wood for mounting orchids…

Your houseplants will thank you!!! This chunky mix is so easy to make!

👉Why not just use bagged potting mix?

Adding perlite and orchid bark add more texture and prevent the soil from becoming compacted. Water is able to freely penetrate the soil to get to the plant’s roots and then drain excess out the bottom of the pot. This well draining soil helps you avoid your plants roots sitting in water that eventually leads to root rot.

Recipe is: equal (ish) parts of these 3 things:
-potting mix
-perlite
-orchid bark

Using air-tight container makes it easy to premix and store. If you notice moisture in your container, open the lid every so often to let it dry out!
