Matisse Collage – Art Projects for Kids. Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color. After losing the ability to paint late in life, he explored and mastered the art of paper cut outs. I’ve found a rather simple formula that will help students create their own Matisse-style collage.

Today I had 5 children out of my Year 3 class who had completely finished the class project, so I did a quick, fun, abstract art activity with them using our new paint sticks. They had to create a variety of geometric and organic shapes that overlapped and then trace around all the shapes, including overlapping parts, with permanent marker. They then used the Posca pens to make patterns inside each part. So bright and gorgeous and the others wanted to do it so much they sped up their work.
