taking this out of the reblogs of my last post @deez-no-relation because I think it’s important and its own thought.

There isn’t any place similar to Tumblr on the internet. Here and now is the last shreds of an internet that was, an internet that could exist without monetization. An internet that lasted through so many ~pivots to video~, an internet that is text and gif and photo first. An internet that is driven by serendipity and the impetus of the user to do the searching, the digging, the work that is just handed to you by algorithms on other sites for the purpose of better advertising to you.

The best part about Tumblr is the reason why it can’t monetize and I have been hitting up against this wall for literal years. There’s magic here because it’s one of the places that hasn’t been overrun by ads. Every social site’s business model relies on those midrolls, prerolls, in between story slides, because the money is what keeps them running.

Someone joked about making Tumblr a UNESCO World Heritage site and honestly? That’s where my brain goes, too. Tumblr is a library. Tumblr is a museum. Tumblr is a third place. Tumblr is where people can go to be inspired and go feral over shit they love and indulge in passion and process their shit. How do you monetize that safely?

@taylorswift honestly this is your moment to bankroll Tumblr and save the internet (just kidding….) (unless…..)

As much as I fucking hate it, sign up for Tumblr Premium. Because the simple fact of the matter is that if we want to keep Tumblr, we have to help pay for Tumblr. Last thing any of us want is yet another fucking subscription siphoning away our money, but that is how the world currently works. So if you can, fork over the $7 a month… I do.

I’m willing to pay to be here because I love this stupid website. I’ve been here for about 14 years and I don’t think I’m fit to survive anywhere else now. I’ve acclimated.

This is the worst timeline. (x)

If you do this with my fics, or anyone’s fics, please know I HATE you. I hate you more than every troll comment, every “your writing sucks kys” comment, every “update soon” comment. I hate you. Other authors hate you. If you want my fic, you either WAIT for it or you pay me for it. And if you won’t do one of those things, you don’t deserve my fic or anyone else’s.

MY FICS ARE NOT MEANT TO FEED YOUR AI GARBAGE!!!

my solution to copyright is that everything unconditionally becomes public domain with the creator’s death. anything held by a group will lose their rights with the death of its leader; whether it be a CEO for corporations or a president for state media. this will solve no problems but will lead to extremely funny assassinations

  • You can’t “mutilate” a story by writing more stories about it, what does that even mean.
  • It’s actually very normal to not be able to make money for your family any more after you die. Bricklayers, for example, die without leaving IP for their families to passively make money on. This is the default way to die. The idea that your dependents should be able to keep passively making income on something you created many years after you die is the weird one here.

The canonical example of a profession where your family continues to make passive income from your work after your death is… landlord.

I actually have much less of a problem with landlords than your average Tumblr user, but I continue to think the Rapid Onset Copyright Maximalism people have terribly confused politics.

i live in a riding that is projected to be neck and neck between the cons and libs, no chance for ndp. i generally don’t like the thought of strategic voting but i’m starting to feel like i need to this time around. anyone else in a similar position?

i guess the best i’m hoping for is another agreement between a lib minority govt + ndp like we had to get things like universal dental care etc passed

I’m a fan of strategy voting when it’s actually strategic.

Voting strategically to achieve an outcome of ABC (anyone but conservative) sends a loud and effective message that Canadians are not pleased with the current policies and leadership of the conservative party. It forces the overton window back toward the left and forces them to analyze their internal party bullshit and hopefully make a change.

With our first-past-the-post system, if they can eke by and get in, their leadership and policies appear to have a mandate (even if they don’t really).

While I’ve voted NDP in every election I’ve been eligible to vote in to-date, this one I’ll be voting strategically for the liberals. I’m in a blue riding but there’s now more than a snowball’s chance the liberals can take the seat and I’m going to do my best to help make that happen.

katniss is sooo funny she’s out there thinking omg peeta would be absolutely gobsmacked to hear me and gale talk shit about the capitol when he literally told her 5 days ago he didn’t want to be another piece in their game. miss girl…

my hot take is that peeta is and has always been more rebellious than gale sorry but I must speak my truth

Peeta is absolutely as rebellious as, if not more than Gale. It’s just he’s more strategic whereas Gale is tactical.

Gale’s rebellion is more “obvious” because of the actions he takes: he speaks his mind about the evils of the Capitol; he’s eager to go into combat and fight the Peacekeepers; he’s active in designing weapons.

Peeta’s form of rebellion is more subtle. It’s holding the Gamemakers accountable for the deaths they cause. It’s his insistence on holding onto his core essence despite the Capitol’s attempts to dehumanize people from the districts. It’s holding up a mirror to the Capitol citizens and forcing them to see the brutality of the Games—that they could choose to send two teenagers desperately in love to their death, that they could rob them of a future together with their child.

And ultimately, it’s choosing to live his life in the face of everything he and Katniss have endured. Choosing to forge ahead and build a life with her, have babies with her.

I like to think that down the road, Katniss realizes that Peeta was rebellious all along but just in a different way.

Something I need to be reminded of often. Yes, I’m very lazy and also have executive problems up the wazoo (the difference? laziness is fun), but the cultural expectation of being productive every waking moment isn’t healthy either. And the business of feeding ourselves is especially fraught these days.

This is the same topic and screenshot that gave some of my chudliest chud haters such a meltdown after I posted it myself once, they raged at me for days and one by one dropped off of Tumblr forever. This subject kills idiots.
