Questions about example sentences with, and the definition and usage of "Was"

A: I would say it's a shorter way of saying "Supervisor" (감독관?), but I'm not 100% sure that's what they mean without knowing more about the situation.

It can also be a shorter way of saying "Superintendent", but supervisor seems more likely..

A: There's very little difference between the two, and they can be used in the same situations. For example, "I was able to attend class today." And, "I could attend class today." They can both be used in past tense, present and future tense. Could is generally a more informal version of was able to

A: "Wasn't able to" means "was not able to"

And "was unable to" means un-(prefix meaning not) able to "was not able to"

Basically they mean the same thing but in my personal experience I hear "was unable to" when someone is speaking more formally or professionally. It differs for different areas and people but I feel that the use of a contractions (wasn't) make a sentence more casual because it's kind a 'lazy' or 'shortened' way of speaking. Not always of course, you can still use contractions in formal or professional situations, but I just find that it sounds better without them. :)
