A: "mens rea" is a concept in law that someone was aware that their actions would result in a crime. It's kind of a complicated concept but it is used in the United States. People can plead insanity, admitting to the crime but claiming they were not mentally fit to understand what they were doing was a crime.

I think there are like 4 different "mens rea" but I am not a lawyer, lol.
