DIY Home Garden on Instagram: "Have you heard of people “pinching their peppers?”

This means different things depending on who you ask. Sometimes when people say “pinching” they actually mean pruning the tops of new pepper plants.

When we say “pinch” at Monarch, we mean pinching off all new peppers, flowers, and flower buds.

Here’s why we do this, and why it helps you get more peppers on each plant:

🌶️ When a new pepper plant goes into the ground, we want the plant to focus on 1.) growing a great root system 2.) getting wider so it’s a stable plant with extra surface area and branches for growing more peppers!

🌶️ Flowers and flower buds turn into peppers! Leaving these on the plant when it’s young causes the plant to put energy in the wrong place early on. Pruning Pepper Plants, Growing Green Peppers, Diy Home Garden, Pepper Plant, Garden Indoor, Pepper Plants, Chilli Pepper, Root System, Replant

Jessica McCollum on Instagram: "Peppers are actually perennial plants grown as annuals in places where winter temps get below freezing. With proper care, however, you can keep them growing for several years! Here’s a few tips: -Dig up peppers before your first frost. Preferably when nighttime temps are in the low 50sF. -Knock off as much soil as possible and pot up in fresh potting mix. -I recommend treating with insecticidal soap or pyrethrin before bringing inside to avoid later pest issues. If the peppers were already in containers, do a soil drench as well. -I prune my peppers back to keep them a manageable size, but this is optional. -Indirect light worked for my dormant plant, but you can put them under grow lights to keep them actively growing. -If dormant, water when soil is dry.
