This wasn't the only reason she'd grown up young. June's mother, Jenny, had been overcome by the same sickness that had left her father a literal vegetable, specifically the cactus kicking around the house, though Jenny handled the disease better than her husband had. These days, she spent most of her time in their fallout shelter's botany laboratory, while her younger daughter, Eefa, dealt with her social awkwardness by socializing exclusively with the spirits of the summoned dead.

Jenny didn't mind running the house, raising her sister, or the rocket ride towards a very promising career. What bothered Jenny was The Divide.
