Two years ago your world fell apart. These days you’re… a bit of a mess. And, as it turns out, a soon-to-be criminal too- er, hang on let’s try that again.
Venatici House is a 17+ interactive fiction game, planned to be book 1 in a series.
Genres: Modern/urban fantasy, fairy tales, (dark-ish) comedy, angst, romance.
Around 100 years ago, magical abilities started manifesting in parts of the population. Today, more than ¼ of the population manifest an ability after the age of 12. But something else started appearing too, all those years ago - keys.
People that found these keys realised they could create portals, ‘doors’ to other worlds, other realms. They dubbed these worlds 'Otherworlds’ and began to explore them, but many were dangerous, and people lost their lives in exploration. As such, an association named Kastell was formed to regulate the use of keys, and make sure only qualified people would be able to use them. They created a university for people with abilities, where after graduating, students would become licensed Travellers, allowed to use keys and go on expeditions to Otherworlds.
That university was Donjon.
Two years after a traumatising incident revealed that you had a power all along, you’re finally persuaded to attend Donjon to learn to control it. Seems simple, right? You go, you get better, maybe you finally move on from what you did.
Except next thing you know you’re illegally entering a fairy tale world with your parolee housemate.
- Customise your MC - Choose your name and appearance, play as cis, trans, or non-binary, and romance whoever you want, or no one at all!
- Balance university and a cross-world adventure where you’ll encounter fairy tale creatures and characters (though maybe not how you expect)
- Bonding moments with the main cast! Go on shopping trips, almost die together, attend a party, and other fun things
- Some good ol’ ‘Found Family’ trope (+ a beautiful scarf from your loving guardian)
Eddie (m/f) - Cheeky but always kind and supportive, the two of you have a long history together. They were your best friend, maybe more, and the person that knew you best in the whole world. Now they’re lying in a hospital bed somewhere and you’ve spent the last two years blaming yourself, hating yourself for it.
You’ll fix this, you will… but what will that take from you? More info
Gil (m) - Your friendly and easy-going housemate, he seems to genuinely want to befriend you. Like you, he’s attending Donjon on a Venatici sponsorship. Unlike you, he was in prison not that long ago. It doesn’t take you long to find out he was committed for murder. However, it seems like there’s a story behind it. You wonder what happened to him. More info
Otto (f) - She’s a mystery with a great set of abs. Laid-back and on the quiet side, she doesn’t seem like a bad person, but circumstances tell you she may be dangerous. Of course, with the way she does things at her own pace, it’d be hard to avoid her even if you wanted to. More info
Ernestine (f) - A princess you meet in the fairy tale world. With her disarmingly pretty smile and (seemingly) sweet demeanour, it’s like she really walked right out of a storybook. At first sight anyways. More info
Lemon Sorbet (m) - A strange but nice man. Best friends with Otto and doubly enigmatic. Funnily enough, while his personality exudes warmth, his body seems to sap away any heat from its surroundings, leaving him with a perpetually cool aura. More info
??? (nb) - The 6th RO. You’ll only properly meet them in the next book… but that doesn’t mean they’re not around.

Fantasy Guide to Architecture
This post has been waiting on the back burner for weeks and during this time of quarantine, I have decided to tackle it. This is probably the longest post I have ever done. I is very tired and hope that I have covered everything from Ancient times to the 19th Century, that will help you guys with your worldbuilding.
What you build with can be determined by the project you intend, the terrain you build on and the availability of the material. It is one characteristic that we writers can take some some liberties with.
Now, let's look at some historical building styles and their characteristics of each Architectural movement.
The classical style of Architecture cannot be grouped into just one period. We have five: Doric (Greek), Ionic (Greek), Corinthian (Greek), Tuscan (Roman) and Composite (Mixed).
Islamic architecture is the blanket term for the architectural styles of the buildings most associated with the eponymous faith. The style covers early Islamic times to the present day. Islamic Architecture has some influences from Mesopotamian, Roman, Byzantine, China and the Mongols.
African Architecture is a very mixed bag and more structurally different and impressive than Hollywood would have you believe. Far beyond the common depictions of primitive buildings, the African nations were among the giants of their time in architecture, no style quite the same as the last but just as breathtaking.
Chinese Architecture is probably one of the most recognisable styles in the world. The grandness of Chinese Architecture is imposing and beautiful, as classical today as it was hundreds of years ago.
Japanese Architecture is famous for its delicacy, smooth beauty and simplistic opulence. Japanese Architecture has been one of the world's most recognisable styles, spanning thousands of years.
India is an architectural goldmine. There are dozens of styles of architecture in the country, some spanning back thousands of years, influenced by other cultures making a heady stew of different styles all as beautiful and striking as the last.
Romanesque Architecture is a span between the end of Roman Empire to the Gothic style. Taking inspiration from the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the Romanesque period incorporates many of the styles.
The Gothic Architectural style is probably one of the beautiful of the styles on this list and one of most recognisable. The Gothic style is a dramatic, opposing sight and one of the easiest to describe.
Renaissance architecture was inspired by Ancient Roman and Greek Architecture. Renaissance Architecture is Classical on steroids but has its own flare. The Renaissance was a time for colour and grandeur.
Baroque incorporates some key features of Renaissance architecture, such as those nice columns and domes we saw earlier on. But Baroque takes that to the next level. Everything is higher, bigger, shinier, brighter and more opulent. Some key features of Baroque palaces and buildings would be:
The Neoclassical Period involved grand buildings inspired by the Greek orders, the most popular being the Doric. The main features of Neoclassical architecture involve the simple geometric lines, columns, smooth walls, detailing and flat planed surfaces. The bas-reliefs of the Neoclassical style are smoother and set within tablets, panels and friezes. St. Petersburg is famous for the Neoclassical styles brought in under the reign of Catherine the Great.
As travel to other nations became easier in this time period, they became to get really into the Ancient Greek aesthetic. During this architectural movement they brought back the gabled roof, the columns and the entablature. The Greek Revival was more prevalent in the US after the Civil War and in Northern Europe.
Hope this helps somewhat @marril96
Medieval Keys
hi all, i’ve moved the demo to cogdemos.ink now, thank you once again for being here :)
here’s the new link, and i’ve also updated it in the masterpost.
do you ever wonder if there’s just a place where all forgotten words go
Hello hello, thank you to those of you who have reached out and let me know dashingdon is closing! I haven’t been following news in the community very closely at all in the past few months, so it was surprising to hear, but I’m glad the site was up for as long as it was.
It seems like there are some places to which I can move my demo so I will probably look into that in the next few weeks and let you guys know :)
Also it’s a bit late but, Happy New Year!!! (Of the snake, too, aka my zodiac hahah)
The most confusing thing about adulthood is going back to places you visited as a child and seeing how much smaller everything is.
I mean like physically smaller. Like. My old elementary school had cavernous halls and towering ceilings. My dad bitches about it being a rat warren. I went back recently and jesus christ it's like the entire building shrunk in the wash.
Excuse me how the fuck do i not know about this IF!!!!!!!!!!
I'm gonna go read it quick it sounds so fucking cool. Ooooomg. Pardon my freak out... I'm normal..ish.
K bye
Hello hello! Thanks for being here, always makes me happy when someone finds their way to my blog and drops by my inbox :)
Hope you enjoy the demo!!
is anyone else just like, having A Time of it lately
*stumbles back onto tumblr like a drunk man staggering home* …what have i missed?
