I sort of made a rec list over thisaway, but it was a little bit short and I’ve read some more stuff since then, so let’s see here… longer fics, huh?… (Anyone else reading this, please feel free to let me know if any more of these lovely authors have tumblrs so I can tag them!!)
First I’m going to recommend Sharpness and Charm by misato. Gosh, this is beautifully-written. I could not put it down. I was doing a student teaching thing at the time I read this, and I literally arrived at the elementary school and searched for it on my phone because I was desperate to read more and my computer couldn’t access Ao3 on the school’s wireless. IT’S SUPER GOOD
Next, I read this one just a few weeks ago: Deep Dark Secrets by theacegrace. It’s about the events of Bridge to the Turnabout, and IT ACTUALLY PORTRAYS IRIS IN THE MANNER I APPRECIATE: AS NEITHER A FLAWLESS SAINT NOR A SNEAKY HOMEWRECKER, BUT AN ACTUAL NUANCED CHARACTER WITH COMPLICATED MOTIVATIONS AND FEELINGS!! WHAAAAT! Seriously give this a read it’s incredible highly recommend
Annnnd next up I’m gonna direct you over to The Primary Path by
Jeanvalvernairdienjoleponius ( @thatoneartyishperson). I don’t typically read AUs, really. But this is written in such a fun style and it’s such a clever idea–Phoenix writes choose-your-own-adventure novels and Miles becomes his new editor! (Also, the author is a sweetheart)
sPEAKING OF AUTHORS WHO ARE SWEETHEARTS I’m also going to recommend Out of Order by my good friend @canolacrush. It’s a one-shot, but I think it’s a fairly nice length for a good read!! No other fic has made me laugh quite as much as this one. There is one line in particular that is probably the pinnacle of what human language can achieve, but most of the lines are exceptional. I will forever strive towards Canola’s greatness.
You know, I’ve got another Sweetheart Author to recommend… Give Texts and Turnabouts by YanagiKana ( @oneguardalwaystellsthetruth ) a try!! It may all be in the format of text message images, but god, you’ll be surprised how much story is packed into it. My dear friend wrote this and they are seriously gifted so check out their other stuff as well!!
And on that note, absolutely anything by @prospectkiss. She was on the other fic rec list as well, but like. I can’t recommend her enough. My stars, my sun, my muse, O Platonic Love of My Life. Some of her work is NSFW so be mindful of that, but seriously it is some good shit

Is it cheating to say that I love writing both Phoenix and Edgeworth? It depends on the mood I’m in, and the goals of the story, to decide whose point-of-view I’ll take. I can relate to both of them, in different ways, so much.
But!! I always, always enjoy writing Maya and Trucy. It’s fun to balance the levity they both tend to bring with their more serious sides. And I’m looking forward to writing Franziska’s POV one day, too.

Practice Lessons
a bit, now that I feel I have a better handle on the characters. Gratuitous French, cliches, awkward setup… Though, a confession: I still have a soft spot for Edgeworth/Maya stories. Hmm. Maybe I should try another fic in that vein again!
But I don’t really want to revise stories, aside from fixing the typo I catch years later. Letting the stories stand as they were written shows a snapshot in time: how I thought/felt when they were written, how I’ve grown since then. It feels dishonest to revise anything. So I can only look back and smile.
13. Are there any things that might have happened in any of your
stories, but you changed them at the last minute? (So-and-so dies, they
don’t actually kiss, main character has long extended ballet-based dream
sequence, etc.)
Five Minutes to Midnight turned out completely differently from what I’d planned. It was supposed to be from Phoenix’s point-of-view, and it was supposed to be more light-hearted/fluffy. Except when I actually sat down and wrote the first sentence, I realized that whelp, I’d accidentally gone into Edgeworth’s point-of-view, and the story went somewhere I never planned.
Another big change was for A Long Way to Fall. The idea I’d planned for the big confrontation in the train car was more elaborate. I’d intended for the train to be working, and more importantly moving, when Edgeworth confronted Banks. Agent Chase was going to take up a sniping position for her shot. But argh, physics and I don’t agree, and the logistics of setting up a shot on a moving train were a bit too much to wrangle. So instead, the more personal, less-action-packed-but-more-emotionally-intense scene came about instead.

First - I recently discovered I have a sister. I have a sister!!! I grew up an only child, so to find out I have a sister after all this time has been - emotional. Incredible. Happy, bittersweet. I knew nothing about that part of me, and now I know I have a little sister. It’s like finding a key to a door that’s been locked my entire life. I have a sister.
And she’s a fandom nerd, too. Marvel and Harry Potter, you have a wonderful artist among you.
And second - I’m moving to Vietnam! I’ll be in Ho Chi Minh City for at least a year. I’m excited, and terrified. I’ll be away from my partner for the first time in many years, but hopefully I can lay the groundwork for a better life for us there. It’s going to be an adventure.

This is the story I wrote for @smile-edgeworth for the Narumitsu Discord’s Secret Santa. They requested a story (in sum) about our lawyers dealing with jealousy, love confessions, and a first kiss.
It’s been a while since I’ve done a Secret Santa exchange, and I feel like they bring out the best in my writing. I wanted to make this one extra special, for such a wonderful friend. I hope you all enjoy!

B) make it stop - looooooooooooooooong stories - thinks their stories have too much filler scenes and that they’re boring the readers - but they can’t stop - unconsciously brags about their word count - 2,000 words turn to 20,000 words real quick without noticing it - how do they do this - probably bad in one-on-one conversations irl
C) do it for yourself - *mildly interesting thing happened in their life* “now how do I exaggerate this so I can add it in my story” - rants about their irl problems thru their writing - *cries while writing angst bc it’s too real* - they’re the main character - makes people they don’t like the antagonists
D) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) - ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) - smut scenes that will make you consider kinks you didn’t know you have - makes their characters fuck in the middle of a zombie apocalypse just bc - afraid to write in public for obvious reasons - just wants to write porn but ends up adding fluff/angst - sometimes it’s the other way around - kinky but sexually frustrated irl
E) God - organized - has a minimum word count everyday and follows thru it - knows how to separate irl emotions to story emotions - intricate outline - perfect grasp of how the story will flow - what we all aspire to be
F) writing???in my house???what??? - spends more time complaining about writing than doing it - same with shitposting - daydreams all the time - has great ideas but ends up being forgotten forever - really good when they write tho
