"respectively" means that:
Mary is 12 years old.
Anne is 16 years old.

The word sort of shows that one part of the sentence applies to one person/thing (one person likes Harry Potter), and the other part applies to a separate person/thing (the other person likes Twilight)

In this example I listed the man then the woman. By adding respectively you are saying that you're using the same order. This means the 1s are together and the 2s are together.

Seperately means like for example two people walking down the road seperately, meaning they walk with little space between them, and not holding hand or other way connecting.
