Here’s the skinny:

Step one: Use a 60, 80 or 100 grit sandpaper to remove your finish. The lower the grit, the more course the sandpaper is. I use 60 on rare occasions, when I’m really having a difficult time removing damage or other issues. ( if the finish won’t budge, a carbide scraper or stripping agent is what you’re going to need) tutorial coming soon!

Step 2: Use a 120 grit to smooth once you have removed your finish or paint. This will just even out any marks or other that may have been left behind by the courser grits.

Apply chemical stripper and let sit for 30-40 min 2. Remove the varnish with a spatula. You can use carbide scraper to remove stubborn leftovers 3. In my previous reel we learned that a credit card/sandpaper combo is best for getting paint out of tiny cracks of legs. And while that is true, for this piece, I was working on a flatter surface. I LOVE to gouge wood with my Dremel, it’s like, my favorite . So I only use it in specific circumstances. I just suck at it, I guess.

But this one called for it. Curved lines, on a flat drawer front, combined with my impatience and quick to boredom? Dremel it is. I believe this was a metal grinding attachment, but it worked.
