The Azerbaijani tradition of weaving carpets is one of the most ancient arts and crafts of the country and dates as far back as the 2nd millennium BC. Because of their high aesthetic value, these vibrant carpets have been used in Azerbaijan to cover floors, decorate interior walls, sofas, chairs, beds, and even tables.

Reminiscent of gas and oil pipes and containers, this installation refers to our double bind to the presence of industrial shapes in nature.

for design miami/ basel’s design at large program, american artist sheila hicks has created an installation which canvasses the walls of the gallery with huge, colorful tufts of fabric.
