When we were at AGFEST 2010 a couple of weeks ago the kids made Dirt Babies. Below are the instructions and the results. I think that kids of all ages might dig this project. Things you need : old stocking legs, dirt, grass seed, jar, various decorative doo-dads 1. Put large scoop of grass seed in toe of stocking (3 tablespoons or so) 2. Put about a cup or so of dirt on top of seed 3. Tie off stocking so you have a ball(trim of excess stocking but leave about 3 inches) 4. Decorate your dirt…

Here’s how to recreate the activity: 

🍄Sensory base: Use gelatine (we used powdered) and cook according to instructions. Add brown food colouring to the water. Once ready, pour in a tray, add the worms and let set in the fridge. Once set, you can add the dirt. 
🪱Worm recipe: Cook some spaghetti noodles and add pink food colouring to the pot while the noodles become soft. Rinse as normal. 
⏳Dirt recipe: Mix flour and cocoa powder. The amount will be dependent on the size of your tray. You need enough cocoa to turn the base brown.
