They require nowhere near as much water as a pot of pasta and can be cooked directly in the sauce with a splash of liquid. Rice cakes are forgiving and remain chewy and bouncy even with a little extra cook time. Look for skinny sticks of fresh or frozen (thaw in cool water) rice cakes in vacuum-sealed bags. Beef:
Thinly sliced beef (eye-balled the amount)
2 tsp soy sauce (add 1-2 tsp more if using more beef)
1 tsp sugar (add 1-2 tsp more if using more beef)
1 tsp minced garlic (2-3 gloves of garlic)
Cracked black pepper
Combine ingredients and marinate it in the refridgerator for ~20-30mins

Cylinder shaped rice cakes (eye-balled the amount)
Choice of veggies (I used carrots, shitake mushrooms, baby kind oyster mushrooms, cabbage, and onions. Can use bell peppers as well)
3/4 cup water
5 tsp soy sauce (1 tbsp + 2 tsp)
1 tbsp sugar
Roasted sesame seeds (optional)

Tips:
If using frozen rice cakes, soak it in cold water for 10-20 minutes before cooking
