The New Caledonian giant gecko (Rhacodactylus laechianus) is the biggest and heaviest gecko species in the world. These giants are found in different islands and localities on New Caledonia and the heaviest of them is the truly gigantic “Yate” locality, reaching weights of almost half a kilo / 1,1 pound ! These are frugivorous animals feeding on the occasional prey animal. Looking like some dinosaurs !
