It's said that the cave—which is really more like an arch—was carved out for an irrigation project in the 17th century. Kameiwa Cave and the lovely Nomizo waterfall that flows beneath it likely once contributed to the rice-growing trade in the area. What's utterly natural here is the sunlight that comes pouring through the arch—during the days around the spring and autumn equinox, it falls in such a way that it creates a light reflection resembling a golden heart.
