the voting for the lesser of two evils argument is over. it’s been over. it has not only been thoroughly debunked on a conceptual level, but also in practice.

unsurprisingly though, it persists amongst comfortable, largely white liberals who feel rightly disgusted by the state of their country, but feel almost entirely disengaged from political action through alienation. for them, electoral politics assuages both concerns: it allows them to be disengaged by turning politics into a spectacle that they watch through debates on tv and polls in the papers, and their sense of guilt from their inaction is alleviated when they go to a voting station and press a button once every two years.

this entire framework falls apart very quickly, and never quicker than when discussing foreign policy. which is why they choose to selfishly center on their pet domestic issues and get mad whenever you bring up the genocide that biden is greenlighting because it might hurt his precious polls.
