Welcome

I am accepting requests at the moment. I am open to taking Quirk Reviews, Original Quirks, and Quirk Marriage requests.

At the moment, I would encourage you to send Meta questions to help balance things out in the ask box.

This blog is about My Hero Academia. While this blog will focus mainly on Quirks, this blog will cover anything and everything about the main series. Be sure to check out the rules page for more details.

For anyone new here, my content is split into two kinds of posts: Requests and Meta. As a general reminder, please do be considerate of your fellow followers and do not stuff the ask box with requests. Sending in two or three Quirks for me to talk about is fine. Sending dozens of them is not. It is unfair to me and everyone else to do that.

Requests will cover the following:
Quirk Reviews: You send in your ideas for your Quirks and I can talk about them, giving you my perspective on how they could work in the setting and what may need changing. The more details you can give me on it, the better I can help you out.

Original Quirks: This covers anything I make into a Quirk that isn’t a Quirk Marriage. Everything from adapting powers from other series to any idea you come up with. If any of these interest you, you can ask for expansions on them, though these don’t count as requests.

Quirk Marriages: You send in two Quirks from the manga and I mix them up together in order to make a brand-new Quirk. Of everything here, this has the most restrictions behind it. You can find more details for that on the rules page. Do note, I only take one of these per person. You send one in, I get it done, then you can send in another one.

QUIRK MARRIAGE MASTERLIST

You can find a list of all the Quirk Marriages I have done here. This list was made by the wonderful @anonymously20-blog and @pilot-boi, who I am eternally grateful for the work they put into this.

Meta will cover anything that isn’t a request. However, this can cover pretty much anything and everything that deals with the canon. Questions about the story, opinions about characters, theories about the how or why certain things work in the world, what ifs about the stories, match ups that pin Quirks or characters against one another, and whatever else you may be curious about. Just take a peak at the MHA Meta and MHA Theory tags to see what I’ve done. Unlike requests, I’m always open to getting these.

And don’t hesitate to ask about anything else. It’s always nice to get other kinds of questions.

Could you do a Quirk Marriage of Fa Jin x Float or Flight?

New Quirk Name: Runway

This Emitter type Quirk allows the user to charge up their legs via repeated movements like squatting. The user can then unleash this force from their legs. This lets the user fly through the air. The user can control the force they unleash the energy, such as gently hovering or flying through the air at high speeds. The user can control where this comes out as well, like having a burst of energy come from their shins to push them backwards. This gives the user a good mobility tool, rapidly bouncing around the battlefield at their own pace. They can dodge out of the way of attacks, leap through the air to get around, fly over an area to scout it out, kick their enemies with their energy fueled legs, or just never walk again. Though this does require the user to charge up the Quirk beforehand, meaning that they can end up running out at a bad time. The repeated motions will make it inconvenient to recharge in a tense situation.

Do you think that you could make a Quirk about the Scarlet Witch as she is in Marvel Rivals? You can pick out whatever you want from her abilities or team ups for ideas if you want.

I think that a lot of her kit could work as one Quirk. Even her new team up with Doctor Strange could fit in here.

I see it working as an Emitter type Quirk that allows the user to make a dark red energy from their hands. When this energy hits a person, causing a draining effect on the target, making them feel weaker, and eventually make them fall unconscious. This energy is naturally pulled to sources of life signatures, to the point it attaches to people over short ranges. In effect, this let the user easily and constantly apply it to enemies. The user can manipulate the energy in new ways, such as bolts of energy or multiple beams to hit targets that are further away. This can especially work counter those that rely heavily on defense and mobility to for their fighting style. This gives the user a great tool for combat, quickly weakening their foes with their potent energy. If nothing else, it can be a great way to track and find people by throwing the energy around area to see where it leads to. Though this does require the user to get close to their enemies to make the most of it. This is because the energy falls off in effectiveness the further it is from the user. The Quirk isn’t effective against non-living targets, making it difficult to use outside of fights with people. A possible name for the Quirk could be “Scarlet Scorn”.

Diamond Form: This Quirk allows the user to transform part or all of their body into diamond. The user becomes nearly invulnerable in diamond form, with extreme resistance to physical and energy-based attacks. More durable than Kirishima and Tetsutetsu. Their translucent diamond body can refract light, creating blinding flashes, reflecting light-based attacks, concentrating them into lasers or enhancing their vision to see all around them clearly by directing all the light they absorb into their eyes, providing a tactical advantage.

Weaknesses include how while the user can see all around them, they are unable to move in their fully diamond form due to their weight and rigidity. The user is weak to sound or vibration types of attacks that can damage them if strong enough. Overuse of this quirk makes the user's body stiff. (I can imagine this quirk belonging to a Kirishima enemy, like how in one piece Zoro managed to beat Mr 1 by cutting steel and being asked if he will cut diamond next. I have this image of Tetsutetsu asking Kirishima if he's gonna become harder than diamond one day.)

So I think there is something in this idea and how you set it up, but there are problems with it as well. There is way too much going on with the actual application of it. They can work in this set up, just not together. The user is super durable, can defect light based attacks, can blind people with their shine, can use light to fire out laser beams, and has better perception of their surroundings. This seems like a lot for one Quirk to do. And no, I don’t think that the user being immobile is that bad of a downside to justify all of that. Because the whole point of having something like that is the user can’t be harmed, but they can’t do anything while indestructible and they can only protect themselves. Here, they have all kinds of stuff they can do. Even the vibration downside feels too specific to have it come up that often. I think that if you just limited it to just the one application, that being the supernatural toughness of the form, that would make it work a lot better. They can’t be harmed, but they are stuck like a statue and can’t do much else. It is simple, You can still have other stuff that can be done with the Quirk, but that’s more from the user’s application of it rather then any new ability from the Quirk itself.

Hi I've seen your blog recently and I was hoping you could help me with my Quirk idea for psychokinesis. I have a rough sketch of it so far but I'm still drawing a blank. I wanted to include energy in it on account of energy revolves around everything both living in non-living things It's like this: Psychokinesis - This is a Quirk that allows the user to manipulate energy with their mind. As long as they are within an excess of 250 pounds, they can pick up boulders, dirt, and concrete from the ground up with ease. Despite their physical appearance, they can also use their energy to enhance their own strength and speed while engaging in combat to defend themselves. They can even make themselves fly, just as fast enough to dodge any enemy attacks, above and below. Though it does take an amount of energy to do so. Before you ask, it's for my female OC. She's a hero/student for UA High.

When you say “manipulate energy”, I am assuming you mean just moving stuff? Because if that’s what you mean, that’s a weird way to put it.

I’m not really sure about this idea. This seems like a lot for one Quirk to do. These don’t even feel like natural applications from one to the other. It just feels like two central ideas fighting to be the main idea of the Quirk. It just makes the Quirk too broad to really work. Maybe they could work as their own ability. Even if you did split them up, they are still both really strong. Two hundred and fifty pounds may not seem like a lot, but it’s enough to be a serious problem for a telekinetic power. Being a flying brick in the setting may not seem special, but it’s a lot more then what other Quirks can do. Though they aren’t terrible ideas for Quirks period. Maybe if you limited the Quirk to something a lot more specific. Like maybe they can fly with their power by focusing or enhance their strength. Just take one of the applications here, which ever one you like the most or think would make the most interesting power, and try to make the central focus of a Quirk.

thegreatkymani asked:

Can the sky-manipulation technique from Jujutsu Kaisen work as a quirk?

Not really, no. There is the fact that the effect is pretty esoteric ability. I can’t exactly see how you can pull and drag the sky around like a curtain. Then the effect itself is absurdly strong. The user can bend and warp space like it’s cloth. That is an absurd effect for a Quirk. And that’s before all of it’s other effects, like how it can hit people with ice attacks. Maybe it could work as some kind of barrier or transmutation power that makes things like cloth, replicating the distortion effect, but it still wouldn’t have a lot of the same applications.

Glad to see that the ask box is open again. So how about a QM between Black Whip and Zero Gravity? Kinda surprised nobody's asked this before.

New Quirk Name: Gravity Links

This Emitter type Quirk allows the user to make starry, floating whips from their body. The user can move these whips like they were part of their own body and extend them out over medium ranges. When wrapping these whips around something, it will begin to lower the effects of gravity on it and make it lighter. The more the whips wrap around something, the lighter it becomes, to the point it will begin to float. The user can then move the target around with the whips. At their most potent, the whips can remove thirty pounds each and the user can make dozens of them at a time. This gives the user a versatile Quirk, able to lift and move whatever is around them to their advantage. They can make themselves lighter to fly around, make enemies more vulnerable in zero gravity, carefully lift and move heavy objects, toss around items then suddenly make them heavier, or just keep the tendrils around for cool special effects. Though these whips can still be destroyed, weakening their hold over what they are trying to move. Moving the whips is rather light and slow, making them easier to avoid. The user needs to keep up with light, happy thoughts in order to make and control the whips. Distress and depression will start hampering their hold and the whips’ power.

How would you make Overhaul an endgame villain by rewriting him?

I’m not focusing on any sort of thematic through line for this or connecting it to the themes of the story like how Tomura was. Because you’d have to rewrite Overhaul from the ground up to make it work and basically make him a whole new character. And I also won’t have it so he’s the successor of All For One. Because that’s the most obvious route to go and I think it’s more interesting to tackle how he’d be with his current abilities.

image

You could also have him gathering other distinct elements from the underworld. Various gangs that sprang up in the wake of the LOV or individuals that don’t label themselves as villains. You could even have him gather individual villains, either through charisma or force. Then have him take on some of the bigger groups, such as the MLA, and take their people and resources under his purview. He could bring them in under the various rules and disciplines of proper yakuza. Kind of like what he did with the LOV, but successful.  It’s that threat of villains getting more organized, only now done at an unimaginable scale with Kai at the helm. A true revival of the yakuza now having a strangle hold over Japan.

If you really want to get crazy with it, imagine if he was able to get his hands on the bodies of Nomus after the heroes beat them and studied them. I don’t think it’d be realistic for him to replicate Garaki’s work. Still, he could easily take bits and pieces of the Nomu and reincorporate them into something else. Maybe even try to get them working again with his power and the right pieces. If nothing else, he can certainly take inspiration from it. Because, with “Overhaul”, Kai could always create his own monsters. He could always fuse people with various objects, animals, or even each other. All to make weak trash even stronger. For every hero, there would be a dozen thugs that could be made into something useful.

As for personal power, I honestly don’t think you’d need to rewrite him much. Kai is already fiercely intelligent, has saint-like charisma, and wields one of the most powerful Quirks in the series. We already saw that Kai could fuse himself with others to gain a tremendous boost in size and power. You could just keep having him doing that with whatever other character you’d want, however many times you want. And boom, you got yourself an endgame villain in the making. And with the Quirk Destroying Bullets, he could easily act as an entity that threatens the very fabric of society by robbing people of their Quirks. You may have to adjust his character some. Maybe emphasize more of how he’s rebuilding villain society into something better, more powerful. How everyone looks up to him and wants to fight by his side, like a twisted version of what Izuku achieves in the end.

Could Jiro have certain equipment to pull off other sound/vibration based abilities? Like gliding around on sound for mobility, making sound barriers, or using echolocation to increase her scouting range.

Maybe? I think that Jiro has a lot of potential in terms of support equipment. However, I do not think her Quirk is strong enough to support some of the more extreme ideas that people may have. Like, I don’t think that she could glide or make barriers with the right equipment because the sounds she makes aren’t that powerful. They aren’t the main feature of her Quirk. It makes more sense to stick to more subtle uses of her vibrations. For example, I think that she could plug her jacks into something like a baton or a sword. She could then amplify the power of that weapon with her vibrations, giving it more force or cutting power. She could have a gun with various dials on it that lets her adjust the sounds she makes. That could give her more unique and controlled ways to use her sound over a distance and what effects it can have on people. I think she could have small devices around that give her new ways to use her vibrations, like a small radar that lets her use her sound waves like a sonar. This could give her a better understanding of what is around her and let her map out the area. She could plug into little dishes that can let her hear over long distances or pick up on frequencies she can’t normally hear.

Are there quirks you think could have replaced Fa Jin and Gearshift in One for All? Where instead of amplifying what was already there, it instead added a new dimension or "Support Quirk" to the arsenal of One for All?

So when it comes to picking out Quirks to replace the ones in “One For All”, I’ve already done a full list of options before. I still believe those are some of the best Quirks for “One For All” and Izuku. And if I were to pick out ones from that list to replace these, I would think that “Gyrate” and “Crystallization” might be two of the best options. Because to me, there still needs to be some more combat-oriented powers in his kit. The four other Quirks are already pretty heavily support-based. It’s just that “Gearshift” and “Fa Jin” do it in the most boring way possible by just expanding more on his physical abilities. With those two, they can at least expand on what Izuku is capable of with it just boiling down a stat boost. Especially after they have been boosted. “Gyrate” could give him whole new applications for his physical abilities with his spinning body, while “Crystallization” could grant him whole new ways to fight people by growing out giant crystals everywhere.

Could you compile your best & most interesting flight Quirks?

For the sake of this, I’m sticking with Quirks whose main gimmick is granting flight or is heavily focused on flying. No animal Quirks either, like “Falcon” or “Dragonfly”.

We’ve got “Fly” to grant you angelic wings to fly and “Fair Feather” for real angel wings. “Lift Off” grants a high tech jet pack and “Thruster” turns the user’s legs into a rocket ship. “Hide Wings” can grant some camouflage with their wings and “Flame Wing” can throw balls of fire from their jets. “Bright Flight” uses the power of the uses light to fly. “Shooting Star” makes for a spacey hover board. “Ride Along” can let the user turn anything into a flying object. Finally, there is “Exertion”, which is about as close as you can get to a traditional, comic book flying ability.
