Only very tangentially related (if at all), but the bit about dragons being connected to magic in such a way reminded me of it again, so whatever:

Ever since reading Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality I always notice how odd it is when a universe requires a magic user to draw runes or say certain words. Seems artificial because a universe doesn't have fingers or vocal chords, but perhaps Xadia's primal magic is artificial, a simplified version of deep magic that was implemented by the archdragons (or the Cosmic Council or whoever).

I have a... 1/3 written post about this, but I've assumed for a long time that whether or not the primal sources are natural, primal rune magic is essentially artificial, in that it was created by dragons for elves to use and provides deeper access to the primal source's power than granted by their innate arcana. The "natural" primal magic is arcanum abilities like Moonshadow form and Heat-being mode, or Bait's flash and Stella's portals.
