Beautiful character / colour palettes cards from Adam Ratcliffe (originals here + a lot more concept art)
Ezran and Runaan were a mere few feet apart at the end of the final battle. We can assume the team spent some time among the ruins of Lux Aurea, processing what had happened and collecting themselves, and taking a few moments to grieve.
Runaan was right there.
A mere few steps from Ezran.
And Ezran let him go.
Runaan would have willingly gone with Ezran if the king had demanded it, despite them not being on Katolis soil, despite Ezran not even having guards. Runaan would've accepted justice, given himself up to Ezran's mercy.
Ezran chose love in the end.
He looked his anger--literally--in the eye, reconciled with it, and chose to move forward.
After months of nothing
Blurry concept art finally blesses us
But where can I see it all (so far???)
Here are just a few of the amazing artist and developers who have updated their profilos with their work on The Dragon Prince!
Omg, there's more?! 👀
Did you just compare Callum to a dog?
Assume you’re referring to the tags on this post, wherein the dynamic between Callum + Ezran and Rayla is compared to a protective guard dog and his sheep (which Rayla’s name actually means female sheep, which is a little funny; Callum’s means dove as well):
submissive in the way a livestock guardian dog is submissive to the sheep it kills wolves for
So the post is about the juxtaposition between steadfast protection / a certain aspect of gentleness amid violence (and killing) in order to ensure that protection, with the implicit subject (“[blank subject] submissive in the…) being a humanistic ”[I, a human, am] submissive…“
So the intended takeaway is "I will love and protect you as a guard dog protects his sheep” which is very Callum to me, because he’s simultaneously incredibly gentle and incredibly violent precisely because of that core of that gentleness. I’ve also compared Viren to a dog in the past + Callum Claudia and Rayla all as dogs in the past, as it’s a very common and interesting metaphor to read onto and indicate dynamics (the whole “I’m a dog on your leash” one for example). Dog metaphors are usually employed to talk about devotion, which is an important aspect of all 4 of those characters across the series. One of my favourite examples of this kind of devotional metaphor mixed with violence is Phoebe Bridgers’ Moon Song:
You couldn’t have
Stuck your tongue down the throat of somebody
Who loves you more
So I will wait for the next time you want me
Like a dog with a bird at your door
You’re holdin’ me like water in your hands
When you saw the dead little bird, you started cryin’
But you know the killer doesn’t understand
Certain metaphors should be avoided, admittedly, particularly when racial dynamics and/or racialized characters come into play, but I don’t think it’s super applicable here given that Callum doesn’t have specific racial coding beyond (umbrella term) Asian and Jewish, and the former in particular is too broad to encompass all the various ways dogs are viewed and seen and associated, or not, amongst communities.
That said if someone wants to point me towards their personal experiences or sources wherein it’s an inappropriate comparison / racially charged in ways I wasn’t aware of, I’ll gladly look at it and take the post down.
