I think, to give you the quickest impression of the kind of person I am, I was discovered at least once as a child crammed in the cupboard under the kitchen sink in order to read a book undisturbed. I am basically still that person, just 20 years older.
I am definitely weird, in a way that has made some psychologists say “autism” and some say “OCD” and some say “inattentive ADHD” and others shrug and give me a handful of pills. I don’t really care about the label, but generally I would like to feel less depressed and anxious, and also for trying to fit into society to feel less like being asked to do an improv acting performance while juggling flaming knives.
Recently I seem to be carving out a niche where much of my work is writing/editing or IT based, this is relatively nice and feels less like imminent flaming knife disaster. I also translate Japanese->English as a hobby and informally as part of my office duties. My goal used to be full time translation, but I’m more flexible about it now. My long term goal is to own a couple of rental properties and not work.
I tend to have “special interests”, the oldest probably being dinosaurs starting from age 3. My parents bought me those Orbis “Dinosaurs!” magazines that were around in the 90′s, some of the oldest have toddler scribbles on them. I can probably still remember which issues my favorite dinosaurs are in. Off the top of my head, #1 is T.rex, #3 is Stegosaurus, and #8 is Deinonychus. I think Allosaurus is #24…
My fandom progression has been: Age 7- Sailor Moon, Age 10- Pokemon, Age 11- Legend of Zelda, Age 12- Final Fantasy, Age 14- Rurouni Kenshin, Age 15- Gackt… aaaannnnd Gackt has pretty much consumed my life from then on. I also like Madoka Magica and Attack on Titan.
I also am a bit of a nerd for planes and trains. I enjoy Air Crash Investigation far too much. I enjoy languages and linguistics. I speak decent Japanese and basic Mandarin Chinese. I’ve always enjoyed music, and go to karaoke here in Japan so often the staff know my room and drink preferences. I used to play piano and will be taking it up again as soon as I can buy a digital piano.
I have traveled around Japan, and to PRC China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. I’m considering Iceland next.
Since this is tumblr I suppose I am contractually obligated to mention my privileges and disprivileges. Ahem. Female, cis, white, mostly straight*, non-neurotypical, anglophone, middle class, thin.
(*attracted to both men and women to some extent but much more to men, only actively pursue relationships with men. Not enough data to make predictions about attraction to non-binary people at this point.)
