About the Author
The short and sweet on who I am: I’m in my early 30’s, queer NB bisexual, polyamorous half-Latine, word nerd, supernatural fantasy fanatic. Been with my sweetie for 20 years, finally married last year. Passionate about good food and a few fandoms (currently obsession over Steven Universe, Kingdom Hearts, and Homestuck). Love cooking and competition shows, like Chopped and GBBS
The more rambly bit about what I write: My writing background is scattered. I mostly write shapeshifter romances with my wife, including In Search of Asylum, Foxes and Fate, How To Date a Jewish Werewolf, and many smaller, unnamed projects set in Asylumverse. We’ve both been writing off and on since high school, though I got a little more serious about it in college and got my degree in English, more or less (There’s more than a smattering of upper division Bio creds in there too. My degree, like me, is kind of a mess.).
About The Asylumverse
Asylum and its companion stories are written by me and my lovely wife. The setting is modern day earth with a twist: monsters and magic are real. For example, there is a New York, and a London, quite likely a Paris, but the generalized location of the Asylum is simply Northern, probably USA, but we’ve never decided on that for certain. Great Lakes-ish, but nothing that specific. However, somehow, Zig is still from L.A. (the Hollywood vamps are all pretentious bitches, btw).
The existence of magical creatures isn’t exactly a secret, but most shifters tend to be in the closet about it, or live in their own private communities. Certain people/locations are declared “Haven”, safe places to reach out if you’re having a problem of a magical nature. Rook’s bar, for example, is a Haven, so occasionally you’ll see brawls get a little out of hand and out of skin as various shapeshifters loose their cool. Asylum is not Haven, so with the exception of Blue Moon Nights, no one reveals themselves in house.
Then there’s Otherside, a place full of magic–and danger. Few mortals live on Otherside, and those that do had better have a faery or a shifter looking out for them, for they are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
