Rule number one for me is I won’t buy it if it doesn’t pass the sniff test right off the bat. Not a “someone else’s house” scent, but pet or cigarette smells are an immediate no for me. But I still want to clean them before bringing them inside! After I do this, I’ll leave it outside for a few days to dry (best to do this in the summer when there’s no rain in the forecast).
