Chris Penny Ceramics on Instagram: "Pulling handles is about knowing when to stop, when to have wet hands and when to have dry hands, and how dry the cup needs to be. It’s all about practice. I think you can get pretty comfortable applying handles in about 3 years … sorry not years I mean weeks 😂… actually it doesn’t take as long as you think. If you keep the starting lump the same each time. And attach as many handles as you can to cups you are making … say 4 handles per cup, then recycle it and repeat a few times. You’ll soon get really comfortable doing it. I’m thinking about making an actual how to video on this, leave a comment if you think I should… ☺️ #pottery #cups #handles #pullinghandles #potteryvideos #potterystudio #potteryhacks #ceramics"

Bilyana Yankulova on Instagram: "How to make a pulled handle?
There are many shapes of handles and ways to make handles. Here is a video how I make mine handles and stick it with the cylinder.
Every pottery I make is one of kind for you.

Chris Penny Ceramics on Instagram: "Part 3: fluted cups, I don’t score the bottom attachment point for the handles that I pull, I haven’t found it to be necessary, and it’s another area that would need to be cleaned up. Also the handle is quite wet at this stage. So it’s making it own slip. 😬
I do score the top.
I then leave the cup’s upside down (to keep the attitude of the handles positive… happy handles make for happy cups). I put them in a damp box to slow down the drying, if they dry out too quickly the handles WILL crack! 3 or 4 days later I take them out… come back in 3 or 4 days to find out what happens next…dun dun dah

Hilda Carr Pottery on Instagram: "Next up on my mug making series is handling. The mugs are firm leather-hard now so can have their handles attached. I cut my handles from slabs then soften the edges ever so slightly before attaching them. Now they all have their handles on, they're tucked up tightly under plastic so the mug and the handle can acclimatise to each (this will stop the handle from cracking away as it dries). After a day or so the plastic comes off and it'll be time for carving!

Chris Penny Ceramics on Instagram: "Part 2: adding handles… my favourite part of making cups… because it’s the moment you can see “the cup”, obviously it’s going to shrink quite a lot but you can see the shape and how it’s going to feel when it’s finished.
I’ve shot a longer version of this process but I haven’t edited it yet. Is it something that people would like to see? The thought of editing a longer form video is somewhat daunting 🫣
I leave a gap in the fluting for the handle because it makes it neater/easier to attach it. Is there another way? Please let me know in the comments 👍🏽☺️

Pinched Pottery on Instagram: "4oz pinched cups in espresso. I named this clay “espresso”, it’s actually a mix of 3 different brown clays that I loved but unfortunately discontinued. I also added in coarse grog as well. Started with a ball of clay about 220-230g and as always, rough shaped them first then let them dry until they are firm enough to be handled without losing their shape to do the final shaping/pinching. I didn’t need any tools for these. Raw inside and out - fired twice, bisque fired at cone 04 then glazed fired at cone 6 without any glazes on. Sealed with @liquid_quartz_sealer. Full making videos are saved on story highlights. . . . . . #stoneware #darkclay #pinchpot #handbuiltpottery #handmademug #handbuilding #ceramiclove #rustic #ceramics #tableware #ceramiccup #pinc Hand Pinched Pottery, Handbuilding Pottery Ideas Pinch Pots, Ceramic Pinch Pots Ideas, Hand Built Cups, Pinch Mug Pottery, Pinch Cups Ceramics, Ceramic Hand Built Mugs, Pinch Pot Mug, Pinch Mug
