The cast of the Original Trilogy had cliched, boring character concepts that were executed wonderfully enough for it not to matter.

The cast of the Prequel Trilogy had interesting concepts that were executed poorly enough to make them seem utterly stupid.

The cast of the Sequel Trilogy had amazing, thought-provoking concepts that were executed in the town square and put up on pikes as a warning to others.

To those of us in the US, waking up to Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey currently filibustering in the Senate Chambers. This is a masterclass in using the US Government's policies for potential change. He is filibustering against the current government's actions. This is what a filibuster is supposed to be here for. Between back-and-forth questions with other senators and reading letters from Republican districts, people who won't go see their constituents.

If he reaches the 24-hour mark, he will pass the historical marker of the longest filibuster, which was set in the 60s by Strom Thurmond, who was attempting to stop the Civil Rights Act.

You can watch his filibuster live on TikTok. He is trying to ensure the whole world can see what is happening in the US government and what the people actually want.

He broke the record!!

Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 5 minutes. He acknowledged Strom Thurmond’s as he broke the record before pivoting back to the civil rights record of John Lewis. The last words of the speech were a pledge to make good trouble.

At one point, 800,000 people were watching his live stream on Twitter. On tik tok, it had 200,000,000 likes. I think it had 54,000,000 likes on another platform. At least six political YouTube channels I watched streamed it, along with most credible news channels to some extent.

The last hour was so exciting. It got bigger and bigger once people realized there was even a record to beat.

I don't know what it will translate to in terms of actual change. But when the GOP tries to pretend no one watched or cared, it'll be another verifiable lie.

always thinking about how tense the set of batman forever (1995) must have been. val kilmer stuck in that suit, miserable as fuck, arguing with schumacher. joel schumacher stuck on his vision and completely unwilling to compromise on it. tommy lee jones one bad day away from murdering carrey. jim carrey being an all around annoyance and refusing to break character on set. nicole kidman playing psych warfare on chris o’donnell for no reason before going home everyday to happily play house with tom cruise. incredible stuff.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention how significant it was that Nasha, a Black women was the person who physically put herself on the line to save the baby creeper from the incinerator. I immediately caught that that Micky 17 and Nasha were significantly less hostile to the creepers than almost everyone else (Dorothy). Kenneth Marshall has been panned as an empty, goofy trump stand in, I think this is too dismissive of his character. His politics are christofascist, eugenist and white suprematist. Mickey 17 and Kai mirror Ylfa and Kenneth at the dinner, it’s essentially a double date. When we saw that Mickey had ‘won’ the dinner I thought he’d get to bring Nasha. Then Kenneth tells Kai about her suitably for carrying a white baby “naturally” and everything clicked for me. Kai saw Micky as a novelty and even fights with Nasha over access to the Mickey’s and suggests she’s being greedy by not sharing and disrespects their relationship. She doesn’t even acknowledge the autonomy of Mickey 17 and 18, she’ll take whichever. Early on in the film the ships passengers are warned not to waste energy and calories on having sex. Nasha and Mickey defy this order, regularly but does it matter if they do? Why doesn’t anyone try to stop them? Why are they allowed to live together? Nasha’s Black and Mickey is expendable, he dies and gets reprinted. They are both held in low esteem despite their respective skill and importance. I think the film says a lot politically and most of the interesting stuff has barely been touched upon.

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

thinking about lottie who didn’t want to go back bc she knew her parents would deal with her by sticking her in a mental hospital and medicating her and she would lose her sense of self. Thinking about post crash lottie who went mute and got put in electroshock therapy and was shipped off to a psych ward in switzerland for who even knows how long. Thinking about how she must have felt when she was getting rescued. Thinking about how she felt when she was being sent back there again after over a decade.

Slow down, turn on the sound and take a couple of minutes to enjoy this!

I think Vivaldi would have been tickled by this as he actually wrote so much of his music for an all girl orphanage/school.

So to see a group of girls still playing his music hundreds of years later?!?!?!

On an instrument he'd never seen?!?!?!

hey guys! here’s some fun things i learned from this article about Dion Diamond:

  • he did these sit-ins by himself. like idk about you, but i always thought of sit-ins as organized by groups, what kind of bravery does it take, man
  • he didn’t tell anyone about it, like he was no glory-seeker about this. his parents didn’t even know until reporters started calling them up like “hey, did you know your son is in jail?
  • when someone called the cops he’d skedaddle out the back door although he was sent to prison multiple times
  • the last time he got arrested was in Baton Rouge, and the cops were so sick of him that they told inmates they’d put in a good word for anyone who gave Diamond a hard time. (the inmates didn’t take the bait.)
  • he’s still alive!
