Happy Shark Week! In honor of the One True American Holiday (all other holidays are less true, due to lower shark content), I spent about an hour reading about sharks on Wikipedia. Important findings from a solid morning's research: sharks often have weird names. For example: the birdbeak dogfish. That's a real animal! Chain Shark - A small, spotted shark that has a characteristic fluorescent activity. Considered harmless and rarely encountered by humans. The shark occupies depths of 190 to 1,178 ft and occupies shallower depths in the northern region compared to southern areas. Sizes of the species range from 0.36 feet (immature), to 1.5 feet (adult). Females tend to be larger at maturity, being 1.7 feet long compared to their male counterparts at 1.64 feet.
