Someone who makes $65k may not be “as poor” as someone who makes $17k a year but that doesn’t make them rich. You’re both still pretty damn poor.
They’re only making about $31 an hour. This is how much my mom makes as a nurse, an “essential worker.”
She has just enough money to pay her bills. She lives in a tiny, crappy house. Her car is ancient and falling apart. She doesn’t have enough money to pay for all the healthcare she needs, including $20,000 of dental work she can never afford.
When I lived with her and she was a single mom, we could never afford the doctor and could barely afford food sometimes.
She will never be able to retire.
How tf do you think that is rich?
Frankly, my mom is still poor.
Your enemy isn’t the person makes $65,000, or even some doctor or lawyer making $165,000. It’s the people making billions off of everyone else’s labor.
You can’t eat the rich if you think every single person making more money than you is rich.

Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it’s a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.
But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he’s not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He’s asking Dick to be his Robin.
And they both know exactly what Jason means: “Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. ”
He’s saying “Be ‘Robin’; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn’t clipped my wings.”
He’s saying “I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don’t have to be. That’s because it’s not skilled labor, anyone can do those things. In order to make good money, you have to be able to do something that not everyone can do.
ARTISTS aren’t skilled labor? Really.

Artists do all that. In fact, every manufactured thing you touch passed through the hands of a skilled artist at some point.
FAST FOOD! If fast food is ‘unskilled’ then why does Wendys, McDonalds (et al) expend time on training employees? Surely if any asshole off the street could do the work they can just slip right in there and start slinging happy meals on day one, right?
Do you know the correct EH/OSHA-approved way to wash your hands? Do it wrong and you are literally violating the law.

Or let’s talk janitorial services. Do YOU think you can clean an entire floor of an office building in the allotted time? Where does the trash go? The recycling? How do you get ahold of the waste removal company when the dumpsters are inexplicably full at 4am? Whom do you call? What’s the account number? Is this even your job to worry about? If the dumpsters are full where do you put a night’s worth of collected trash?
What do you do with hazardous waste you might encounter, if you’re cleaning (say) an industrial workspace? Dispose of it incorrectly and that’s a crime.
What’s the procedure for when you encounter a trespasser in a secure building where supposedly nobody but you is working? Can you identify a fake or expired employee badge? Are you supposed to? Your training probably covered that.
How much would we have to pay you, dear @ithinkthatthismustbetheplace, to deal with a seriously clogged toilet? Shit-smeared walls, standing waste water, the entire place trashed as if it was 3am after a frat party? You have less than an hour to return that restroom to pristine condition. And no, building services is not going to help you.

The idea of “skilled” or “unskilled” labor is inherently classist, and misses the fucking point anyway. All labor has dignity, whether you THINK it’s “skilled” or not, and all people deserve to live comfortably, whether they’re able to work or not.
When you peel back the layers of this bullshit argument it becomes obvious that it’s just another way to keep us huddled masses infighting instead of building guillotines.

Nobody has managed to convince me that professional cleaning service people do not have super speed, and yet that is allegedly unskilled labor.

Okay, but check out this video from mid-May 2022 of a Kestrel Dad who just kept piling up voles and mice beside his babies when the mom was injured/killed/mia’d by owls…but then watched one of his babies just swallow a lizard and went “OH. I can feed them small food!” and learned to tear it apart!

UPDATE: Not only has Mister Kes learned to feed his chicks all on his own…
….the three chicks who were taken out of the nest for intensive care after the mom disappeared were put back in, and he just started feeding them, too.
He’s a single father of six who does not possess the instincts to feed even one of his offspring, but he learned and adopted that behavior without difficulty and is now hunting and providing for six kids all on his own.

so forgive me but i am sick and tired of hearing about how WHITE WOMEN have it bad when WHITE WOMEN withhold their allyship until they can be certain that supporting the liberation of oppressed groups will benefit them in some way and are just as guilty of doing this as white men are.
