Happy to finally have an update for your all! I hope to get back to a somewhat regular schedule as i adjust to the big changes in my life. Sorry this wasn’t a bigger update, but I’m glad i was able to finish it.

you’re allowed to identify as asexual because of trauma. you’re allowed to identify as asexual because of neurodivergence. it doesn’t mean that you “aren’t really asexual” or that it’s something that needs to be fixed because your lack of sexual attraction was caused by something else. your asexuality doesn’t have to be completely disconnected from every other aspect of you to be valid. i’m happy to be sharing this label with you. platonic kiss on the forehead.

Happy International Asexuality Day, Black Asexuals! 🖤🩶🤍💜

Yasmin Benoit helped to co-found this day in 2021 to celebrate the asexual identity and ace experiences. I have to be honest and say given recent events I’m not in the celebrating mood, but I’m still gonna try to boost Black asexuality today just like every other day. Creating Black ace spaces and content is important because we’re the only ones who can. Just like Yasmin, we have to create the Black ace representation that we want and need. We are the representation. Don’t be afraid to take up space and speak your truth. Don’t shrink yourself to make mainstream bigger ace spaces more comfortable. Don’t feel like you have to downplay or ‘fix’ your Blackness for anybody ace or not. And most importantly, have a great day!

“it’s ok for labels to change as you learn more about yourself” and “i hope with every fiber of my being that I’m right about being aroace and nobody will come along to change my mind because I hate the idea of being in a romantic relationship or conforming to gender roles or heteronormativity” are two sentences that can and should coexist.
