ART MASTERPOST - THE LIGHT WILL LEAD YOU HOME by Desirae

More than a decade passed since Dean last saw Cas, the boy who spent his summers in Erzla Cove in their teenage years. His best friend, his love. They were inseparable but after an incident they lost each other for years. It all changes when the news goes around in town that someone bought the Keeper’s Quarters, next to the lighthouse. Who could the new owner be?

Finding your lost love at the sea side? Making up for past mistakes? Having a chance in a new, happier life? And this is in a town where the legend says the angels came from? All this with beautiful pining. What else do you need?

For the art, the lighthouse was the most inspiring for me. All the art revolves around it. I could draw lighthouses all the time. Although I had to admit I had struggled with one of the art, drawing and redrawing it multiple times. I hope the final artworks can be worthy for this fic. Because the story deserves all the love.

You can read The Light Will Lead You Home here.

I submitted the lumberjack!Dean art to DCRB this year, thank you Inandal for claiming it! The fic far exceeds what i expected to come out of my silly drawing of Dean and I’m so excited for other people to get to check it out!

Art masterpost: Silent Lucidity
story by: Tierra469
art by: sidewinder @hawkland

And here, at last, is my second @deancasreversebang collaboration for this round! I was so delighted to have my art picked by Tierra469, another author whose work in this fandom I’ve enjoyed for a long time, yet I’ve never had the chance to work with her before.

This was my original art piece submission:

image

It’s another piece I did inspired by the work of a pre-Raphaelite artist—in this case, Evelyn De Morgan’s Phosphorus and Hesperus.

Fairly obviously, I was thinking of some kind of Empty rescue/fix-it scenario with this one, and Tierra469’s story delivers with a unique and delightful spin on the genre. In fact, I could have done a ton more art based on some of the vivid imagery in it, but I just couldn’t resist Dean’s underwater dream from early in the story. It gave me the chance to use some of my favorite watercolor-flow tricks, which I also employed on the title banner and the “torches” in the original piece.

image

If any art nerds are curious, what I do to get the sharp wavy/flow effects is heavily mix in Floetrol paint additive to my tube watercolors. Floetrol is generally meant to be used with acrylic paint, but I found it can do fun things with watercolor as well—especially when used on hot press, smooth paper and if I dry it quickly to avoid bleed-out (I do this by sticking my wet watercolor paper/blocks in my oven on “proof” setting until dry.)

Please go read the story, I know you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did!
